Football Band

What is Football Band?

We perform at home football games, in the stands and at halftime. We also perform in pep rallies, the Crestview Christmas Parade, and in one combined halftime performance alongside the Big Red Machine!

Who is in Football Band?

Football Band is a required part of the curriculum for all Concert Band and Symphonic Band students. Every student enrolled in one of these classes is automatically a member.

What is Football Band Camp?

Football Band Camp is held before school begins so we can learn our music and halftime show. Since our first football game is only a few weeks into the school year, these rehearsals help us be performance-ready from day one.

Is FBB Camp required?

If you’re in town, be there! We need everyone’s participation. If you’ll be out of town, let us know ahead of time.

Acceptance into the All-State Middle School Concert Band is the greatest achievement a middle school student can receive! Simply auditioning is a huge accomplishment, and no matter the results, the process helps your student become a better musician and human! This is highly recommended for students entering grades 7/8. All-State auditions are completed for this school year, but all students interested in auditioning for All-State next year can begin working on the following: 7 Major Scales performed in 2 minutes or less by memory, full range Chromatic Scale performed in 45 seconds or less by memory. Auditioning for the All-County Band, attending a Summer Music Camp, and getting started in private lessons are the most EFFECTIVE ways to set your student up for All-State auditions and long-term success in Band. Private Lessons

Private lessons allow students to progress quickly due to individualized instruction. Weekly lessons (paired with consistent practice at home) are highly recommended for the best results! Attached below are flyers for local teachers in the area. Please reach out to them directly if you are interested in getting your student started in lessons. Availability and pricing may vary.

The Okaloosa Middle School All-County Band is made up of the best musicians in all of Okaloosa County! This is an incredible achievement and our students grow tremendously simply by going through the audition process. We are proud of our students for challenging themselves and celebrate those who are selected and represent the top middle school musicians in our county! The audition consists of 7 major scales (performed by memory within 2 minutes 30 seconds), the chromatic scale (performed by memory), 2 prepared etudes, and sight-reading.

Summer Band Camp Opportunities

Participating in summer band camps is an amazing way to keep your student engaged in music-making over the summer. In addition to gaining new experiences, students are exposed to new music and instruction, make new friends, and improve their musicianship. They return to their home programs in a great position to start the new year, and many end up making All-County and All-State! Feel free to explore the attached websites to look and plan ahead!

This is an INCREDIBLE and HIGHLY RECOMMENDED performance opportunity for students in grades 6-8. Students prepare a solo or ensemble piece of music and perform for an expert on their instrument for an official rating and meaningful feedback. We are so proud our students who seek out opportunities such as this to step out of their comfort zone to grow as both musicians and people. More information coming at a later time!
